Using YouTube to promote your jobs and employment brand

Too few companies realize how powerful sites like YouTube can be for marketing themselves. We’ve written about companies like Sodexho using it before. But we cant stress enough the fact that YouTube is a tremendous opportunity for employers if they use it correctly. It represents social media recruiting at its best.
There are 2 main reasons to incorporate the popular video site into your recruiting efforts.
- Employment branding
- Promoting your jobs
Once you set up a channel and add content you get FREE exposure to YouTube’s millions of users. We’re still amazed at how many companies still don’t post their recruitment videos to the site even though they are on their corporate site. Doing so could double, perhaps triple the number of views that video gets by uploading it.
Beginning tomorrow we will be showing you step by step how to setup your Youtube channel to maximize its usefulness.
Stay tuned.

Yes, YouTube is a powerful channel. However, YouTube is mainly associated with vidoes that fit in the “fun”, “leisure”, “free-time” category… and not the top-of-mind-site for gathereing information about prospective employers, learning the latest career tips etc. I think that is true both for job-seekers and corporations, and that is the very reason few employers actually use YouTube for branding themselves or posting jobs.
I further believe that this also explains why sites like CareerTV are breaking ground so fast. YouTube can fill a lot of needs - but not all. Share your thoughts please.

Good point Helen, but we still believe it is worth posting your videos to. There have been many cases of business posting videos on the site and companies like Google have long used it as a branding platform. There is a video on Youtube called “An Inside Look at Google - Working at Google” which has been viewed over 232,000 times! I don’t know any employer who not LOVE those kinds of numbers.
Its mostly true that YouTube viewers are not there to find jobs, but if they come across a company recruiting video that interests them, they WILL watch it. (some might call them passive seekers)
Branding is branding no matter where it happens. And since CareerTV is also found on the site, I hope you’ll agree. (youtube.com/careertv)
