Nice article today from Network World which explores the new way candidates are looking for work. Of course, Jobs in Pods gets a nod as one of the cool new sites now online.
Here’s a snippet:
That means well-known sites such as CareerBuilder, HotJobs and Monster could become secondary to upstarts such as Doostang, Jobs in Pods and Smuz that aggregate listings from such job boards and provide additional value for job seekers. For instance, Jobs in Pods posts podcast interviews with hiring managers and front-line employees at companies seeking candidates to give applicants more information on job requirements and company culture. Add to that the ability to build relationships online, to stay current on industry issues and to maintain contact with peers and job seekers can create a virtual career network working toward finding the ideal job.

Dr. John Sullivan’s most recent article titled “Top 10 Indications You Are a Dinosaur Recruiter” references podcasts/jobcasts as a great way to recruit. He says:
“They don’t use podcasts or jobcasts. The majority of new-school recruiting prospects probably don’t even know what a Walkman is. Instead, they love MP3s or iPods (if you don’t know the difference is you’re probably old school). If you think they’re just for music, put yourself in the old-school category. Even Walgreens is utilizing podcasts as a recruiting tool. If you haven’t made a recruiting-oriented audio or video message available for download on these devices, you are missing a great opportunity to communicate.”
Thanks John, we certainly agree.

Magazine that is.
Our founder Chris Russell, was just featured in a new Workforce Magazine article. Here’s his quote;
Chris Russell, founder and president of JobsinPods.com, developed a Facebook application because it gives employers additional visibility among members of Generation Y, who typically are defined as those born between the late 1970s and 2000. Launched in March, JobsinPods is an audio job board allowing employers to record podcasts containing information about career opportunities within their companies and distribute them electronically.
The company’s Facebook application was introduced this month and allows recruiters and hiring managers who are members of Facebook to embed their podcast in their personal page. Russell hopes to enhance his Facebook application, making it more interactive and creating a function to allow podcasts to be e-mailed.
“The iPod generation is bored with the conventional communication techniques that employers use to reach them,” he says. “They want something fresh and real, like podcasts, which are very commonly used within this group.”

Yesterday a job seeker left the following comment on the blog post for Verizon Wireless Telesales position.
It was very encouraging, as well as, very inviting after having listened to the audio, I am very interested in applying for a position with Verizon. The audio was pretty down to earth and explicit enough for anyone to relate to. It gives a job hunter a pretty broad overview of what to expect of the company and position he/she is applying for. I applaud this approach and looking forward to the opportunity of joining this realm of talented, hard-working, and idealistic people.
Sincerely,
Sigrid O. Lintag

This is proof positive that job seekers love the idea of podcasting your jobs and hearing straight from your employees.
