Twitter recruiting tips

April 1, 2009 · 2 Comments

Recruiters are getting ga-ga over twitter when it comes to recruiting. We just came across an article about how one company, Organic, is using twitter to lessen their reliance on job boards.

They started by: “We held a “Twitter Twaining” with our recruiters, introducing them to capabilities of the network, along with helpful accompanying apps and instruction on how to search for key talent. They ran with it, and in a short time, Twitter has become the anchor of Organic’s job-posting strategy.”

Postings on job boards now account for only one-quarter of their efforts. Of course it helps when 30% of their employees on on Twitter, but most giant conglomerates dont have the courage to encourage this kind of activity.

Here are their best twitter recruiting tips:

1. Create a branded company Twitter profile. Assign a key person — or automate tweets — to post jobs as they become available.

2. Don’t be a Twitter wallflower. Engage in conversation.

3. Create a protocol for your job Tweets. Consider searchability by using hash marks (#) around key words. Include a trackable URL.

4. Help your search by using a third-party tool such as TweetBeep.

5. Encourage your staff to retweet job openings by providing an incentive such as a referral bonus for candidates sourced through tweeting. (we love this one)

6. Don’t be a one-track tweeter. Be varied and creative in your approach. To keep it real and not boring or spamlike.

Each job creator is carefully screened by a jobshouts.com team member. Jobshouts provides jobs in a variety of verticals to a targeted group of twitter followers & professionals.

So in addition to companies tweeting like our client Intel, these new free job boards are enabling recruiters to leverage social media without actually having to Tweet. It remains to be seen how many applicants you’ll get but it couldn’t hurt to try. Expect to see more of these mashups pop up this year.
