What are the CandEs you ask?
Have you ever applied for a job, spending hours writing a cover letter and jumping through hoops to upload your resumé into the company’s crazy ATS (applicant tracking system), then waiting… and waiting… and never, ever, hear anything back? From anyone? (A curse commonly known as the resumé black hole).
Six years ago, three recruiting and HR leaders – Elaine Orler, Gerry Crispin and Ed Newman got together to address the “candidate problem.”
The result? The Candidate Experience Awards (aka #TheCandEs), and a new non-profit organization, Talent Board was created, focused on the promotion and benchmark research of a quality candidate experience. Since 2011, The CandE Awards have grown to an international movement.
According to a press release announcing this year’s award winners, “The 2016 North American CandE Awards set a new program record, with more than 240 participating companies eager to put their recruiting practices under the microscope, and over 183,000 job seekers sharing their thoughts and experiences as candidates. The 50 winning companies were identified through a blind data analysis based on their candidate survey scores. Focused on the candidates’ direct responses to ‘likely to apply again,’ ‘likely to refer a friend’ and overall ratings, the scoring created value ranking for systematically identifying the strongest companies and ultimately, this year’s winners. To qualify, each company had to commit to a statistically significant candidate response, and the proportion of respondents not hired also had to exceed a set standard. No other candidate experience research effort meets these strict standards.”
Kevin W. Grossman, Talent Board VP, NAM Program, added, “Considering the 84 percent of them [candidates] didn’t get the job in the first place, their overall candidate experience was pretty good. Exemplary in most cases actually. And all this defined and rated by the candidates themselves for this year’s North American Candidate Experience (CandE) Awards Benchmark Program.”
If your job involves talent acquisition, recruiting, staffing or HR and happen to be in the Austin, Texas area this week (perhaps attending the Recruiting Trends Conference), you’re in luck. The 2016 North American CandE Symposium and Awards Gala was held November 15th at the Hilton in Austin.
